The students were introduced to the practical aspects of the activities of K9 units.
Police Lieutenant, K9 Inspector Artur VERDESH demonstrated the work of the German Shepherd Caesar, specialized in searching for narcotic substances and precursors, during the inspection of hand luggage and vehicles. Police Major, Senior K9 Inspector Viktor MYRON introduced the students to the initial stages of training using the example of the Belgian Shepherd named Bess. Police Senior Sergeant, Junior K9 Inspector Vitalii ZVONAR demonstrated the work of the German Shepherd Athos, trained to detect explosives and weapons. Police Sergeant, Junior K9 Inspector Tetiana KUVICHYNSKA demonstrated the general obedience course, person and item selection with the service Shepherd Alpha, and also introduced the students to the initial training exercises with the young dog Tank, which is planned to be trained for operational-search activities.
After the demonstration part, participants had the opportunity to visit the territory of the K9 center, communicate with specialists, and familiarize themselves with the conditions of keeping and training service animals.
Such events have a significant educational and cognitive effect, as they contribute to forming students’ understanding of the specifics of police operational activities and expand their knowledge regarding the practical application of K9 services in the field of security.
