Name of the Hero

Dnipro Lyceum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been named after Oleksandr HOSTISHCHEV in honor of the fallen defender

Our HERO - Oleksandr Yevhenovych HOSTISHCHEV

   HOSTISHCHEV Oleksandr Yevhenovych was born on February 19, 1983, in Dnipro. In 2005, he graduated from Ukrainian State Chemical-Technological University, and in 2017, from Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs.

   In April 2014, Oleksandr began his service in the internal affairs bodies of Ukraine as a police officer in the patrol police battalion “Dnipro-1” of the special purpose militia of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He actively participated in national security and defense measures, countering and restraining enemy aggression. Oleksandr demonstrated extraordinary resilience and self-sacrifice. He stood up to defend the civilians from the illegal actions of armed groups, not sparing his life.

   From 2015 to 2017, he headed the Zhovkiv Police Station of the Kamianka-Buz Police Department in the Lviv region.

   Between 2018 and 2021, Oleksandr led the patrol police in the Luhansk and later Odesa regions.Thereafter, he held senior positions in the Odesa Regional Police Department, where he was stationed on February 24, 2022, when Russian troops brought war, bombings, and shelling to Ukrainian cities and villages, inflicting death, pain, and suffering on all our people.

   Immediately after the establishment of a combat unit within the National Police of Ukraine - Separate Assault Brigade “Lyut” in 2023, Oleksandr was among the first to join the ranks of the created combat unit, following the call of his heart. He was appointed to the position of commander of the assault regiment “Tsunami”, and together with his comrades, he bravely defended his native land, heroically liberated temporarily occupied territories, performed combat tasks excellently and responsibly, and was an example for his subordinates.

   During his service in the National Police of Ukraine, Oleksandr HOSTISHCHEV was encouraged by state and departmental awards multiple times for his significant personal contribution to strengthening the rule of law, exceptional professionalism, exemplary performance of duties, loyalty to the Oath and the Ukrainian people, and heroic acts:

  • Award of the MIA of Ukraine “Firearm” (Order of the MIA of Ukraine №. 414 o/s, April 13, 2016).

  • Certificate of Merit from the Headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Center under the Security Service of Ukraine (Order of the Security Service of Ukraine № 270, July 27, 2021).

  • State Award of Ukraine - Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III Class (Decree of the President of Ukraine № 768/2022, November 14, 2022).

  • Honorary Badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine  - “Steel Cross” (Order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine № 40, January 8, 2024).

   Until the last day of his life, Oleksandr fought against the Russian aggressor that continues to bring death and destruction to Ukraine.

   On March 15, 2024, Oleksandr HOSTISHCHEV was killed while performing his duty. 

   On that tragic day, the enemy launched a treacherous attack on the place where Oleksandr and his comrades were providing aid to civilians and our colleagues. Despite the danger, Oleksandr was the first to arrive at the tragic scene.

   Oleksandr HOSTISHCHEV was an extremely courageous and strong-willed person, a leader, a reliable comrade, and a true patriot.

   His entire service and combat career are a testament to genuine heroism.

On November 28, 2024, by the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor KLYMENKO, Dnipro Lyceum of the MIA was officially named after Oleksandr HOSTISHCHEV.
